- General Handy Tips
Gluing a paper plate to the bottom of a paint tin will help prevent paint drips getting onto the floor. To save clean up time, line your roller tray with a plastic tray liner. You may also use aluminium foil pressed tightly to the sides of the tray. Once painting is complete you can remove and dispose of this liner, saving a lot of clean up time. Do not let paint dry on the brush. Always rinse your brushes and rollers thoroughly with water before they dry. Always remove masking tape straight after painting. If paint dries on the tape, it can crack when tape is removed. Always ensure you paint in a well ventilated area. Always stir paint thoroughly before and during painting.

- How to ensure the best application.
Rollers First fill your roller tray 1/3 with paint. Do not overfill. When applying paint to the roller you should run the roller down the tray into the paint. Repeat this several times until there is a even spread of paint on the roller. Apply the paint in a criss cross pattern, and then work the paint to an even spread. Brushes Dip the brush about halfway into the paint. Withdraw and tap it lightly against the inside of the can to remove excess paint from both sides of the brush. Keep the brush well filled but not overloaded. Always use the flat side of the brush-never the edge. This will give a better appearance to the paint job, and the brush will last longer. [Back To Top]

- Preparing a surface to be painted.
Prior to painting, ensure the surface is free from any damage or holes. If required, repair the damage with the appropriate tools and fill any gaps. If the surface has been previously coated, you will need to determine if a specific primer is required, or if the surface needs to be removed prior to painting. Wash the surface to remove any dust, grease or grime. The surface must be cleaned using sugar soap, dry and free from contamination. Ensure the room you are painting in, is cleared of any furniture. Any items that cannot be removed should be covered with a drop sheet to protect from paint. It is best to have a clear space for painting. Apply masking tape where 2 colours join to provide a nice straight line between the colours. [Back To Top]
